The San Juanico Bridge is the longest bridge in the Philippines, with a length of 2.2 km which crosses the San Juanico Strait. Others call it Marcos Bridge. It was also fondly called as the “The Bridge of Love”. Former President Ferdinand Marcos dedicated it to his wife, Imelda who was known as the “Rose of Tacloban“. It served as a birthday gift and testimonial of his love for her.
The construction began in 1969 and completed in 1973.
It is rightfully regarded as one of the most elegant and monumental engineering projects in the history of the Philippines and is a sight to behold as it spans the islands of Leyte and Samar.
